Can We Change The World?

If you take a quick trip through the decades of the last 100 years it is riddled with highs and lows.

1910 – 1920 – World War 1

1920 – 1930 – Wall Street Crash

1930 – 1940 – The Great Depression

1940 – 1950 – Continuation of World War 2

1950 – 1960 – The Cold War

1960 – 1970 – Vietnam War

1970 – 1980 – Soweto Uprising

1980 – 1990 – Chernobyl Disaster

1990 – 2000 – Rwandan Genocide

2000 -2010 – Indian Ocean Tsunami

In each decade there are countless significant events that I have not included. Many of them are horrendous but others are uplifting and positive. Yet the last 100 years are no different to any other century. Perhaps that is why we search out constancy and a sense of permanence in an ever changing scene of life around us. There are three bible verses that seem appropriate to remind ourselves of the immutable nature of God.

Malachi 3:6 “I the Lord do not change”

Psalm 100:5 “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever, his faithfulness endures through all generations”

Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”

Sometimes life is beyond our control. Maybe the trick of life is to accept that fact and acknowledge our dependence on the ever present, ever constant one!
