Queen Elizabeth II – Marathon Runner Extraordinaire!

The Queen was thrust into office at a premature age of 25 and has served the Commonwealth now for 60 years. During that time much has happened in the world.

Everest summit reached by Sir Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tenzing.
Rock “n” Roll music appears with Bill Haley and Elvis Presley.
The Suez crisis.
Berlin wall was built and then later broken up.
Yuri Gagarin becomes the first man in space.
First human heart transplant takes place.
Concorde takes to the air.
Bloody Sunday massacre.
Nelson Mandella released.
Twin Towers disaster.

There are countless other historical events that could be mentioned. Alongside those changing scenes she was the matriarch of her sometimes problematic family. For sixty years she has been a constant, diligently going about her duties. She never chose the position but her sense of duty has shown itself decade after decade and has to be admired. Her commitment cannot be faulted so my hat off to you Queen Elizabeth II, marathon runner extraordinaire!
